Tilting Armchair By Le Corbusier: Tecnology for Comfort

The tilting armchair by le corbusier represents one of the smaller seat in the production of the Swiss (French naturalized) architect and designer: he realized some unique seats (chairs, armchairs and chaise lounge), but is famous for his activity in the architecture and in the city planning (in these fields Le Corbusier was one of the most important exponent of Modernism). But the Swiss designer also worked in the field of furniture design ad realized various works: particularly his seats become bestsellers.

The tilting armchair by le Corbusier it’s a sign of this success, because the stylistic characteristics and also for the technical characteristics (typical of Le Corbusier’s production) that make this chair an unique piece for its framework and structure in furniture.

The Swiss-born architect Le Corbusier was a highly influential proponent of the modernist principle of rationalization in furniture. He used modern industrial methods to create standardized designs based on the manufacturing and design concepts of automobiles or ocean liners. He described the house as a "machine for living in," and referred to domestic furnishings as equipment. This chair, designed along with two other models with his associates Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, encapsulates these principles.

The tilting armchair by le Corbusier is also called basculant because of its pivoting back support, the chair was ergonomically designed to the proportions of the human body. And the basculant chair LC1 got a sober and curt style, that make it similar to the “safari” or “colonial” style: the chromed steel framework made a perfect cubic shape, from that descends the functionality of this chair. Indeed, thanks to its shape, you can simply adapt the tilting armchair by le Corbusier to a great kind of spaces and rooms: you can left it in the center of the room, or you can lean it on a wall, without any complication.

The idea for this design was being developed in the Le Corbusier studio at just about the same time as the designer Eileen Gray created her “Transat” chair for the house “E-1027.” What was new about the chair by Le Corbusier, Jeanneret, and Perriand, however, was the translation of a customary basic form into an elegant piece of tubular steel furniture which emphasized the functionality of the simple tilting mechanism.

Instead of straight tubes to attach the seat and to mount the back section on the legs, the back is pushed forward and supported together with the seat by a single connector which is welded from one straight and one bent tube.

If you choose the tilting armchair by le Corbusier for your home and office, you will find not only an armchair with a unique design (like all the seats from the collection LC, like chairs and chaise lounge) but also a really technical armchair: this armchair is not only elegant, but also comfortable for all the users thanks to its technical characteristics. Buy this armchair and you will give a touch of elegance to your furniture and get a comfortable seat at the same time.
